Sustainability

Made to be kept, not thrown away

At Sprinkled with Magic, we make pieces designed to become part of family memories and traditions - decorations, gifts and keepsakes that are brought out, used and enjoyed again and again.

That naturally shapes how we think about sustainability. We believe the best place to start is by making things thoughtfully, using materials responsibly and avoiding unnecessary waste wherever we can.

Made to order

Every customer order is made when it is placed, including our non-personalised products.

That means we do not manufacture large quantities of finished stock to sit in storage waiting to be sold. It helps us avoid overproduction, clearance stock and products being discarded simply because they did not sell.

We make what is needed, when it is needed.

Responsibly sourced materials

The wood and paper materials used across our collections are sustainably and responsibly sourced.

From the oak and walnut used in our keepsakes to the papers, cards and packaging that accompany them, we carefully choose materials from suppliers who share our approach to responsible sourcing.

Making the most of every sheet

We carefully plan how our products are laid out and cut to make the best possible use of each sheet of material.

When part of a sheet cannot be used immediately, we keep it wherever practical and use it later for smaller products, samples, testing or future orders.

It is a simple approach, but one that helps us reduce unnecessary material waste.

Plastic-free, fully recyclable packaging

Website orders are packed using plastic-free packaging, and all packaging we send with website orders is fully recyclable.

Greeting cards ordered through our website are sent in protective hard-backed paper envelopes rather than cellophane sleeves.

Occasionally, some of the materials and supplies we receive from our own suppliers arrive wrapped in plastic. Where this happens, we try to reuse that packaging wherever practical rather than simply throwing it away.

Our aim is to use only as much packaging as is needed to protect your order properly.

Waste handled responsibly

Even with careful planning, making products inevitably creates some waste.

We work with a specialist waste partner who separates materials for recycling and recovery, including plastics, and works to minimise the amount ultimately sent to landfill.

Their reporting shows that the majority of our waste is diverted from landfill through recycling or recovery.

We continue to look for ways to improve how materials are used before they ever reach the waste stream in the first place.

Made by us

Everything we sell is made by us.

Designing, making, engraving, printing, painting, finishing and packing in-house gives us much greater control over what we produce and how much material we use.

It also means we can make each order individually rather than relying on large-scale production runs.

Powered by renewable electricity

The electricity used in our workshop is supplied through a 100% renewable electricity tariff with British Gas.

That means the electricity we use to run our workshop, including our machinery, lighting and day-to-day production, is matched with electricity from renewable sources.

It is another practical step we can take to reduce the impact of making our products while keeping production in-house.

Designed for traditions, not trends

We want our products to stay with you.

A Christmas decoration that is brought out every December, a keepsake marking a new baby or new home, or a piece that becomes part of a family ritual has a very different life from something designed to be used once and replaced.

That is one of the reasons we focus so heavily on timeless design, natural materials and pieces with personal meaning.

Always improving

We know sustainability is not something that is ever really finished.

As better materials, packaging and production options become available, we will continue to review the choices we make and look for practical ways to reduce waste and improve how we work.
